Attire - Ladies

What should I wear to the Holiday Vintage Ball?

This event involves active dancing, including reaching, stooping, sliding sideways & stepping backwards in tight spots. The Standards of Conduct & Attire (Gentlemen) are designed to ensure that you and everyone around you will be safe and comfortable throughout the evening. We believe it is necessary for ladies in particular to dress in a manner that respects others and refrains from stirring the desires and affections of another's heart in a way that causes him to stumble in thought or action.
Rom. 14:21 "It is not good to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that causes your brother to stumble."
Before ordering tickets, please carefully consider whether you and your guests are willing and able to comply with the Standards we have put in place to ensure a formal, family-friendly atmosphere that will not be offensive to anyone in attendance. Each person who attends the Holiday Vintage Ball will be required to sign an agreement to comply with The Standards of Conduct & Attire.  Those who choose not to comply with these Standards may not be admitted.
Standards of Attire for Ladies

Vintage (pre-1900’s) attire is strongly encouraged, but not required. Other appropriate formal attire will be permitted as long as the following minimum standards are met:

Clothing may not be sheer, too tight or form-fitting (Sheer layers over an appropriate under layer will be permitted)

* Dresses, blouses, or straps may not come off the shoulders. Straps and/or shoulder seams need  to be around 2 inches wide (we are just looking for modesty) No spaghetti straps, single strap or strapless dresses or tops will be permitted. If you are wearing a cover up, please be sure to follow strap guidelines so that you are still modest without it.

* Necklines must cover the front of the person, from underarm to underarm across chest, and up to the bottom of the shoulder blades in back. Undergarments or cleavage may not be visible.

* Hemlines (all the way around) need to come down to mid-calf or below. (We do not wish to see knees)

* Vintage footwear, dress shoes, or dance-style slippers need to be worn at all  times.  No thin, spike heels, flip-flops, rubber-soled, athletic shoes or bare (or stocking) feet will be permitted.

* We have a very diverse group attending our ball each year, so in order to not offend a brother or sister in the Lord, we ask that you accessorize with discretion.  And  ask that you leave masks of any kind at home.  :-)

No plunging necklines in front or back.

Hemlines (all the way around) must come down to mid-calf or below

No short or cocktail dresses

Thin, spike heels will be uncomfortable for you to dance in and dangerous if you step on someone's foot.  Flip-flops are inappropriate and dangerous because they might slip off and make you trip/fall; bare feet are dangerous if someone steps on your foot and inappropriate to this formal event.  Tennis shoes are also inappropriate for a formal event.

Ballerina-style slippers or very low-heeled shoes are the most comfortable shoes in which to dance at the ball.  We highly recommend shopping for shoes early and wearing them before the ball to break them in and make sure they will be comfortable.  However, we will allow chunk heels or wedges (which are completely flat on bottom of high heel) because they will not be "dangerous" for our gentlemen partners.

We realize that with the current formal styles in department stores, those who do not sew have fewer options.   We have provided a new tab on this website to help you find appropriate attire.  Please take a look at the “Need a Gown?” tab.
