Does a parent have to attend with their youth?
The Holiday Vintage Ball is designed to be a family event. Many parents enjoy taking part in the dances and catching up with other parents. However, we will allow only homeschool students (age 12 & up) to order individual tickets and attend without a parent (parent still needs to sign for minor). All other guests may attend only if a home-schooling parent / chaperone orders their tickets and attends with them OR leaves a cell # where they may be reached. We assume no responsibility for the safety of youth who are "dropped off" by their parents or who come with only their friends. We do not check to make sure that they stay at the ball the whole time.
If I as a parent choose not to buy a ticket and attend, may I drop by to take photos?
For those parents who don’t attend, but who have children attending, we encourage you to take pictures at home but you are more than welcome to take pictures in the lobby before check-in or when you pick up your children or any time through out the evening. We have our own private lobby and entrance at the Sheraton, so it is a lovely place to take pictures. Please note that our prices reflect our desire to encourage parents to attend WITH their student(s). However, only those who have purchased tickets may be admitted into the actual ballroom/refreshment area.
May I bring a friend or relative?
The Holiday Vintage Ball is planned by and for families in the Roanoke homeschooling community. We do require that all ticket purchasers be home school families. These families may purchase tickets for, and bring, non-homeschooling guests. The attending parent(s) /chaperone(s) will be responsible for their guests throughout the evening as well as ensuring that their guests abide by the Standards of Conduct & Attire (for Ladies & Gentlemen) by either attending or leaving a cell #.
May my friend, who did not buy a ticket, visit me at the Ball?
We do not encourage inviting friends to visit. Only those who have purchased tickets may be admitted into the ballroom/refreshment area - those without a ticket will need to stay in the ballroom lobby.
What happens if I wear something that does not comply with the Standards of Attire?
We have made every effort to clearly explain what types of clothing will be allowed to ensure that everyone that attends will be dressed modestly and comfortably. If, however, you come to the Ball wearing something that does not comply with those Standards, you will need to modify your attire to comply. We can assist you in that to the best of our ability. If not, we will need to ask you to leave to either take care of it or, unfortunately, not return. To avoid undue stress at the door, we encourage you to contact us ahead of time if you have any questions about the Standards or whether your attire will meet those standards. You can email a picture to holdiayvintageball@gmail.com or Mrs Sanders has texting 540-793-4518. She also has instagram, facebook and snapchat. If you purchase a ticket, and are then unable to find anything appropriate to wear, we may be able to refund your ticket price, only if we can find someone else to purchase your ticket. But we would really be more than happy to do anything we can or make any suggestions we can in order to help you find something suitable (and comfortable for you) to wear to the ball.

Are refreshments served at the Holiday Vintage Ball?
Yes, delicious, light refreshments, punch, as well as coffee and tea, are served throughout the evening. Ice-cold water is also provided for the thirsty dancers.
Are the dances difficult to learn? How do you know how to do them if you have never attended a colonial ball?
The dances are simple-to-learn line dances. The callers explain and demonstrate each dance before the dance begins. Many who have attended in the past are helpful to those who are just learning. Everyone is "still learning" to a degree, so it's all part of the fun if a mistake or two is made. We imagine that you will catch on more quickly than you might think.
What do I need to know?
Take a look at the Tickets section. You may also email us if you need an invitation and Ticket Order Form. Please also make sure you read the information under the Conduct, Attire - Ladies and Attire - Gentlemen tabs so that you know whether this is the type of event you would enjoy attending.

What if I buy tickets and find later that I cannot attend?
If tickets sell out, a waiting list will be maintained of people who would like to purchase tickets (even up to the day of the Ball). Although we can not guarantee finding a buyer to purchase your tickets, we ask that you call us first, if you will not need one or more of your tickets. Tickets are non-transferable, meaning the name of the person on the ticket is the only one who can use that ticket. We believe that the fairest policy is to offer available tickets to those who are on the waiting list. If we do find someone to use your ticket(s), you will be reimbursed for the cost of your ticket(s).
Is there a waiting list if tickets sell out?
In order to maintain fairness to everyone, a Waiting List will be maintained based on the date that the ticket order was postmarked or the time/date when a person called to request to be added to the Waiting List An e-mail will be sent to each person on the Waiting List to explain how this works. If tickets become available, the next person on the Waiting List will be notified as outlined in the procedure listed below.
How does the Waiting List work?
When we are called by people who cannot use their tickets and who wish to sell them to others, we call the first person (or family) on the waiting list. If it is several weeks or even days before the Ball, we will try this person a couple of times before going to the next person on the list. WE DO NOT LEAVE MESSAGES--we must reach someone "live." It is simply too time-consuming, confusing and difficult to ensure fairness if we leave messages.
If it is just a day or so before the ball, we call down the List, trying each person (or family) ONLY ONCE. Again, we have our own families to care for (and, often, visiting relatives during the holiday season), so we can only spend a limited amount of time calling people. This has proved the quickest and most effective system. Thank you for your understanding and gracious attitude as we seek to serve everyone in what we have found to be the fairest and most efficient way.
